That ain’t development, that’s regression.

Here’s the tricky thing—and I mean really tricky—a good loan requires three things: the right club, the right manager, and the right playing time. Miss any one of those and you’re wasting a season. I’ve seen Premier League youngsters go to Championship sides, sit on the bench for four months because the manager didn’t rate them, then come back with zero confidence. That’s not a loan, that’s a career setback wrapped in a PR statement.

But when it works? Oh man, it’s beautiful. You get a raw talent who’s never had to defend for 90 minutes stuck in a relegation battle. Suddenly he’s tracking back, making tactical fouls, learning to grind. That’s where the growth happens—when the pressure is real and there’s no safety net. It’s gonna change his game completely, make it stick for the rest of his career.

So my advice? Stop treating loans as a checkbox exercise. Be ruthless. Pick the environment that’ll break him down and rebuild him. Otherwise just keep him home and let him train with the first team. Half measures ain’t gonna cut it.
