And the referees? They blow the whistle for every little contact making it impossible for kids to learn how to handle physical play. You wanna know where real talent comes from? Street football. Kids playing with older guys learning to protect themselves to think on their feet. These structured tournaments are killing that instinct. I’ve seen it happen over and over. A kid with raw talent gets put into a system that demands conformity and he either quits or becomes another robot. The few who make it do it despite the system not because of it. So don’t tell me youth tournaments are the answer – they’re part of the problem. What we need is less structure more freedom to play and coaches who value creativity over compliance. Make it stick? Only if we change the whole damn culture.
